Johannes Itten, one of the greatest teachers of the art of color of modern times talks about “subjective timbre” in one of the chapters in his book ” The elements of color”. He calls for personal feeling. The creative process starts with feeling but the next step requires planning and designing. However during the execution phase creators trust back to their intuition again. It is the same process with color design where subjective color choices need to be supported and enriched by objective principles and fundamentals. Itten explains : ” if you, unknowing, are able to create masterpieces in color, then un-knowledge is your way. But if you are unable to create masterpieces in color out of your unknowledge, then you ought to look for knowledge.”  Theories are best for weaker moments. In moments of strength, problems are solved intuitively, as if of themselves.
