dismantling the past

“I believe that the future only begins when the past has been completely dismantled, its logic reduced to dust and nostalgia is all that remains.” once said ettore sottsass~and this is what he did.

as a reaction to “function” that he heard a lot in the past, he focused on sensual and exciting side of design.

he also experimented with the bright colors- the valentine typewriter in the bright red, poppy plastic  described as “a biro among typewriters”.  although Sottsass later dismissed the Valentine as “too obvious, a bit like a girl wearing a very short skirt and too much make-up” ~~it is still seen as an iconic ‘pop’ product.
