EARLY YEARS & COLLEGE WORK
Searching for his own art, Julian sought out Josef Albers at Yale for insight into color behavior. Stanczak build a personal visual vocabulary based on an emotional response to nature, distilled into rhythmic divisions filled with color and texture. (quote from the Stanczak website)

1960’s
Rhythmically energized surfaces became more controlled, the lineal spacing tighter, color relationships more intense and often of opposing, vibrating wavelength. In 1964, Stanczak had his first, pivotal exhibition in New York, Titled “Julian Stanczak Optical Paintings” the exhibition lead to the name of the new movement: OP Art.(take from the Stanczak website)
